IPRC
The Identification, Placement and Review Committee:
The IPRC meets to decide whether a student should be identified as being in difficulty and, if so, which placement would best meet his or her needs. An IPRC consists of at least three people, one of whom must be a principal or a board supervisor.
- The IPRC process is initiated when a parent requests it in writing or the principal believes that the student may have needs that require the provision of a special education or services program.
- Schools often hold meetings (sometimes called school team meetings) to discuss pedagogical strategies (e.g., differentiated pedagogy and evaluation) before initiating the IPRC process.
- The principal refers the student's case to the IPRC most often following a recommendation from the school team.
- The IPRC must take into account the student's educational assessment. The results of ongoing interventions and additional evaluations requested by the school team are considered to refer the student's case to the IPRC.
